    I'm late to the video, but hey from Toronto! These are all really great tips... I'm definitely guilty of buying the cheaper option and needing to replace it sooner, and that's especially tough when it's related to your home because those costs can sky rocket! I also definitely let produce go bad in my fridge because I'll be too lazy to commit to the meal plan I made, so I'll be taking your advice to prep my produce in advance!

    Christina, another great video for us to think about how to save $$$! I got lots of triggers and want to share. Because I have not been working for the last 4 years, I have had to change my life. Thankfully, I am or was a clothes horse and still have tags on new clothes that I don't wear because of COVID and not dressing up to go out. I basically wear a small selection of clothes that I just wash over and over again because I am at home. One great deal that I have invested in is good socks. I bought these on a girl's trip to Buffalo more than 10 years ago and they are just falling apart. I have looked for the store but it is gone. I found them on Amazon and they are called Gold Toe. These are amazing and they don't compare to either the dollar store socks or even the high-end socks you can buy. They are a great investment! On the topic of food waste, it is very sad. I am a single person and do not get to go out weekly (or daily, as some people do) to buy takeaway or prepared foods. Thankfully I have a talent for cooking and I find meats that go on sale and cook them that night or freeze them. The big joke between my friends is how stocked our freezers are. I don't think I have ever had it empty. LOL. I love using my Instantpot for making soups (that I store in the freezer because I get sick of eating it every day) and pasta is amazing to make in there. Less messy and does not take your time to watch it. You can also make yogurt in it! A big way to save money on this item can go from $2.29 to $4+!! You have to wrap your brain around it but once you do, it is simple. As for subscriptions, I got rid of my Netflix but my friend found me a free site where you can watch movies that are even just out! I am sure there are a few out there now. I don't have a car anymore but I hear that Walmart has a place you can ship your purchases to. Just this week I purchased a smartwatch for my health that I want to monitor closely. I went on Amazon and found an iWatch knockoff. I went through the reviews and even the simplest ones (which I wanted) had some bad reviews. So, knowing that these cheaper ones are not as good as the original, I bumped the price up because I know paying a bit more will be better in the long run. So far, so good. Also, I was talking with a friend and he said he will help me with my financial outlook by making up a spreadsheet to follow and know where I am. He said he had some depression years about money and he did this and it really helped him. I think most people under financial strain do not want to look closely at this. Once you do, you are accountable for being more aware of how you are spending. All your tips help, Christina!🤩

      Thank you so much for your comment!! Lots of awesome info in here 😊❤️ I love that you invested some money into your health - I think that’s not something that’s talked about a lot but taking care of our health is so important and will also save us money in the long run! Also you are right, it can be hard for people to face reality when they are in debt or spending too much. Understandably so! Ripping off the bandaid is the first step towards better finances :)

    Hi Christina, great to see another video from you. The idea of buying new/expensive clothes is kind of scary if you don't have the funds to always do that. I look at exercise gear and want to buy it but these types of clothing last forever! I walk away and keep using the collection I have. Workout gear is not fashion, really. If you do want to, get together with your girlfriends and trade stuff that you don't want. The rest can go to Goodwill after you have your gathering. The jar thing, I can relate. I keep all cute jars because I make homemade salad dressings and chilli oil and keep those in the fridge. Much nicer to use glass than plastic. I also keep a list of things that I can never buy....like lipstick.(just to look at it and keep it in mind) You only buy the same colours anyways. lol. When I used to work, every Friday was the day a friend and I went for a cheap meal at the market down the street. It was under $10 and I never bought a drink. Speaking of drinks. I have a container that rolls up once you use it so I take that along knowing that I can reuse it and roll it up, not throw it out. Just the other day I went to a guy that makes jewellery that I befriended. I brought him my old gold and silver and I made $614! IF you make jewellery as I do, keep anything silver that you cut off in baggies, as this is added to the lot. One idea is to buy your birthday/holiday/sympathy cards from the dollar store. Unless your friends/family are into the art scene and will judge you, then buy one from there. They are decent enough. As for groceries; I live in Toronto so every so often I go down to Chinatown and do my groceries. I can leave with paying $5 for my lot which would have cost me $20 in the big grocery chains. The issue is that you have to use up these foods quickly so freezing anything you can is also an option. I don't have a car so if I want to go to this grocery store, I walk. Usually, I would take a subway and/or bus(a car ride would b 5 mins+)but I walk and get my steps in. Keep on saving!!

    • @florak1087
      @florak1087 Год назад

      OH, one more thing. I just recently changed my internet service. I got a bill for over $170 and when I looked at the bill I noticed that there was a duplicate charge(other than termination fees) that I questioned. I called them about that and in the end, they removed all the termination fees! WIN-WIN. I think maybe it is something that is illegal to do?? Like having a contract with any of the providers. Well, made my day!

      Wow, so many great tips and ideas in this comment flora!! ❤️ I LOVE that you made $614 from gold/silver you didn’t need! Also the fact that you don’t have a car must save you so much money as well. I lived in Toronto for a year in 2013/2014. I loved how easy it was to walk/take the subway!

    These tips are amazing. As someone who strives to one day be more sustainable as well as am very frugal, I think it's such a waste to buy bottled water when you could get water at home. Job tip is also cool. You don't want to have worked for practically nothing. I'd never buy anything unless I plan to keep it. I'm intentional about purchases. My family members are impulse buyers. It's a little annoying. Wish we didn't need butter tubs but everytime we end up with actual Tupperware it disappears as if someone threw it away. 😢

    I went back and watched parts of this video 2 times. I am old enough to be your mother. I think you are very wise and frugal for your age. You give great advice and I am learning from you! Thank u! One thing I do as a frugal person is to earn money by using my debit card to pay for things. I just earned $25.00 this week. I am going to take that money and buy some home decorations. I dont buy home decor like most women do. I try to make what I need or use birthday money or other money given to me to purchase the home decor. If I need a painting, I paint it. If I need a wreath for my front door, I make it. It is fun and saves me a lot of money. God Bless!

    I am a frugal granny and I adamantly disagree with your "go grocery shopping with a meal plan" advice! You're doing it BACKWARDS. First, scan all of the local flyers. I use Flipp, I don't know if that app is available in Canada, but if not, sign up to be on the mailing list of all the local markets and scan those email flyers. Find the best deals, especially on the proteins, which are the most expensive component of any meal. After you've found the proteins, fill in with whatever produce and other foods are fresh, seasonal and cheap. THEN create a meal plan from what is available to you. First, you will be using the freshest most seasonal foods which are invariably the most nutritious. Second, you will save as much as 50% on your food without too much effort. I shop the sales cycles and stock up at rock bottom prices. I use a Google Docs spreadsheet to track the lowest price that I last paid for an item, so that I'm sure that the advertised price is truly a bargain. Using the stock-up tactic, I eat all organic, free-range, grass-fed, fair-trade, super-nutritious food and I spend less than $150 per month including such luxuries as fresh shrimp, salmon, prime beef, wine and coffee. I am experienced enough that coming up with a great meal based on available ingredients is second nature. But, to get you started, try www.supercook.com. You input the available ingredients, and it offers helpful menu and recipe suggestions to select from. Good luck on your frugal journey, Christina. You're on the right track!

    Oh man I remember at my old job I'd always stop into Shoppers Drug Mart after work and pick up all these items "on sale." I don't know what I was thinking 🤦🏽‍♀️. Whenever we go out to restaurants I always order water, or if we eat at the food court I order chinese so we can split it since they serve lots lol. I never buy their drinks, instead I'd go to Dollarama or Dollar Tree.

      Splitting large portions is a great idea Simone! 😊 Especially for feeding kids - you can divide it up a couple of ways. Yess I love dollarama for cheap drinks/snacks! Especially with the price of food these days.. dollarama has been my go to!

    I think your hair looks pretty. I am trying hard to continue to declutter. I am so thankful to say that I sold 5 items last week. I have a long ways to go to become a minalmist. Great video! God Bless!

      Thank you Sandra! 😊 I think as long as you’re working on limiting the things in your life that don’t add value, that’s all that matters! It’s all a work in progress. Enjoy your day ❤️
